Hats off to the Morton Arboretum for hosting an amazing race while adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines. It was so great to do a race! The Arboretum hosted two events: a socially distant 5k on the actual grounds and the opportunity to participate in the race virtually.
The race organizers and volunteers did an excellent job hosting a safe and fun race. Each runner signed up for a specific race time when they registered for a race. Runners came at their designated time and were able to run the beautiful course. Each runner was staggered and volunteers maintained proper safety measures and ensured a safe race. The course was beautiful with the beginnings of fall colors and runners experienced rolling hills and amazing scenery. The post race festivities were greatly missed, but after the race, runners were given water and the opportunity to explore the grounds. It was a beautiful day!
There were fast times for the race. The leading male runners were Ben Bocher from Naperville with a time of 16:05 and Mitch Gilbert of Lisle with a time of 16:11. The top female finisher was Jennifer Norgaard of Downers Grove with a time of 20:59 and Mallory Johnson of New Lenox finishing in 21:26. Runners could view their overall place times and age divisions. Every runner will receive a race t-shirt my mail.
Hopefully, next year, the Morton Arboretum can continue its annual Fall 5k tradition in the normal but they made so many runners happy giving them this awesome opportunity while supporting a great cause!!!!
