Last year’s first American female finisher of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Jordan Hasay will not be competing in 2018 due to an unknown injury, event organizers announced Monday.
The course record holder initially announced her return to the Chicago start line in May, and has been training since. Hasay also withdrew from the 2018 Boston Marathon announcing a stress reaction in the heel of her foot after dealing with plantar fasciitis.
Hasay set records at both courses in 2017; her debut marathon at Boston landed her a third place medal with a time of 2:23:00. Just six months later, she earned a two minute PR at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon with a time of 2:20:57, marking the fastest female American time ever in Chicago.
Due to her low-key season so far, many anticipated the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon to be a big race for Hasay.
