USA Paratriathlon will host a free paratriathlon summit this week in conjunction with ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Chicago. The summit, scheduled for Sept. 16 from 2-8:30 p.m. and Sept. 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., will take place at Fosco Park (1312 S. Racine) and includes a variety of educational panels designed to help attendees understand how to create and sustain paratriathlon programs.
A variety of major names in paratriathlon, including locals Keri Serota, Melissa Stockwell, Mary Kate Callahan, Stacee Seay and Adam Finney, will speak over the course of the two days. The summit’s first day focuses primarily on the establishment of paratriathlon programs at a local level, including information on different paratriathlon program classifications, how to start a paratriathlon program and how to connect with the local USAT community. The second day dives into more specific development information, including how to coach paratriathletes, opportunities available for paratriathletes, the equipment used in paratriathlon and paratriathlon’s upcoming Paralympic debut in 2016.
