On Saturday, the Women Rock race brought hundreds of women to the Chicago lakefront. With race distances of a half marathon, 10K and 5K, there were options for every level of runner. There was even a Rock Starlet challenge which included multiple race distances throughout the morning.
There is nothing like a Chicago lakefront race, especially when the trail is full of Chicagoans providing cheers and encouragement. Racers began at Soldier Field and ran south following the lakefront trail. The out and back course was fully staffed with aid and water stations throughout. With staggered race start times, everyone had adequate space on the trail.
Race day temperatures were in the mid-60s with a very light wind. With the flat trail, it was a great day to try for a PR.
Racers received a pair of running shorts and a large, pink medal at the finish line. If you registered early, you also received a silver necklace with a women rock pendant on it. If you race for the swag, you should definitely check out this series. Every race I’ve run with the Monster Race Series has provided unique, high quality gear to runners.
First through third half marathon female winners were: Kathleen Tahk, Mallory Abel and Mandi Florip.
First through third female 10K winners were: Kristie Hawkins, Valerie Soderlund and Amanda Fischer.
First through third female 5K winners were: Kim Zachmann, Marina Payne and Sara Creager.
