On Sunday, the Divas Running Series brought their Run Like a Diva race to Lake Zurich. Race distance options included a 5K and Half Marathon.

Although the rain drizzle was constant, the positive vibe was even more powerful at this pink tutu-outfitted race. Women and men came from all over to participate in this diva themed race, designed to make all runners feel like royalty.

Packet pick-up was mandatory and offered the day prior to the race. Upon entering the elementary school gymnasium where this was hosted, my children announced to me that they felt like they were at a party. Dance music played and various vendors including Kinky Beverages and Bondi Bands were present displaying their products at discounted prices. Runners could even pose in front of a diva themed backdrop with a half-naked model posing as a fireman!

The course began at Paulus Park in Lake Zurich, where parking was plentiful and free. Racers exited the park and ran through the scenic residences of the community, visiting water stops, cheering sections and the diva’s infamous boa and tiara stop.

Finishers received a metal full of bling and a champagne toast. All racers also received a short sleeved pink technical t-shirt and tutu.

First through third 5K male finishers were Carlos Martinez, Tony Slaton and Troy Piper. First through third 5K female finishers were Kaitlin Hoy, Rebekah Cooper and Susie Savage.  First through third Half Marathon male finishers were Maxwell Morgan, Jeff Morgan and Anthony Molinaro. First through third female finishers were Brynn Bartlett, Stephanie Bulder and Jordan Montgomery.
