Race Review: Fit America

On Saturday, June 26th, All Community Events hosted their Fit America series of races which includes a 5K, 10K, and half marathon. This popular event, normally held in July, was moved to the end of June this year. Past runners know that this event is usually scorching-ly hot, which may have led to the date change. All Community Events sure made a great decision because race day temps were in the 60’s with light rain, ideal for a summer run. The rain kept runners cool throughout the event even as the temperatures and humidity rose.

The half marathon and 10K runners started together at 7:30 AM in Hoffman Estates. Parking was in a lot located near the start/finish area and porta potty‘s lined the parking area. The race started with high energy as ACE Owner, Peter Starykowicz, led the group in stretches and ramped everyone up to hit the streets.

Runners begin together for the first mile and then split as the half marathon runners headed out for a looped out and back before tackling the 10K course the other direction.

Most of the run took place on the trail system in the Hoffman Estates area and was on asphalt. Much of the course was also tree-lined, providing ample shade and shield from the light rain. The end of the course looped through the commercial area on the streets leading back to the finish line. Volunteers greeted runners with a flag which they were encouraged to carry over the finish line.

All Community Events knows exactly what they are doing and ensures that the course is extremely well marked and aid stations are properly placed. Water, Gatorade, and ice were available throughout the course. Volunteers and spectators shared cheers and energy to keep runners moving. This was also a multi-looped course so runners were able to see each other multiple times on the course. I love courses like this because it allows me to see my friends several times throughout the event.

All runners received a patriotic short sleeved T-shirt and finisher‘s medal. All Community Events also provides medals for age group and overall awards. A great job to the race company, volunteers, Public Safety, and runners! Results can be found here.
