Polar Plunge Breaks Fundraising Record

Thousands of brave and costumed individuals descended on the North Avenue Beach yesterday to take a brief dip in Lake Michigan at the Polar Plunge. This year’s event, which supports Special Olympics Chicago, raised $1.1 million: the highest total in the event’s history.
After a successful social media campaign #VinnyDippin, actor Vince Vaughn took part in the day’s event, donning a Jonathan Toews Blackhawks sweater for his plunge into the lake. Several other celebrities, including “Chicago Fire” stars David Eigenberg and Taylor Kinney, “Chicago P.D.” star Jon Seda, Lady Gaga, and Chicago mayoral candidate Jesus “Chuy” Garcia also participated in this year’s Polar Plunge.
