Ooh La La Chocolate 5k

Pumpkin spice might be all the rage in the fall, but on a perfect, fall day in Geneva on Sunday, the focus was all on Chocolate.

The Ooh La La Chocolate 5K nearly doubled in size in its second year and it is easy to see why this has become a favorite amongst runners and walkers in the Fox Valley area. No matter what your speed or finishing time, the phrase, “I just came out for the chocolate,” had probably passed your lips at some point in time.

The out-and-back style course was actually a bit on the challenging end as a long uphill greeted participants with about a mile to go, but they also had a chance to see downtown Geneva and the Fox River, both of which shined bright as the sun rose.

After the race, participants headed over to the All Chocolate Kitchen, just down the street, and refueled with chocolate pastries and chocolate covered pretzels.

Even though people came in from all over, the race had a close knit community feeling with plenty of smiles and good vibes. (Sweets will do that to you, I think.) Look for this event to grow even more in the future with the streets filled with chocolate loving athletes out to have a fun morning.

Jonathan couldn’t run a mile before his sophomore year in high school but went on to run at Hope College. Now, he runs with the Fast Track Racing Team and races in almost 30 races a year, still managing to run some PRs. He couldn’t win a 100 meter sprint if his life depended on it, but still has a pretty good kick at the end of a 10k. He is the Local Advertiser/Sales employee on Chicago Athlete's staff, and also volunteers as an Assistant XC Coach at Elk Grove High School and has done that for the past 11 years.
