The 11th Annual Oak Forest Fledh kicked off on the Oak Forest Saint Patrick Day’s festivities on Saturday. The 5k started at 8:30 a.m. and the weather was beautiful for the race. 504 runners and walkers participated in this fun family event.
The course started and ended on Kilpatrick road and weaved through the neighborhoods surrounding Cicero Avenue. The last stretch of the race came down Cicero for a quick turn downhill into the finish line. Plenty of volunteers and spectators were along the way to help and cheer runners on throughout the race. Volunteers and race organizers were friendly and helpful. Parking was easy and right by the start and finish line. Runners received a long sleeve, festive t-shirt.
The leaders of the race were in a fast pack. Suhayb Froukh won Overall Male Winner with a time of 16:28 and Alex Clark finished second with a time of 17:25. The top female winners ran a fast race. Josephine Mintel finished first with a time of 19:57. Megan Brewczyns and MaggieMcTeague finished second with a time of 20:06.
Race results were available immediately and age groups awards were given out during the awards ceremony with every winner receiving a medal. The post-race party was full of snacks, drinks, and freebies. This is definitely a race to put on your calendar for next year!
