McHenry River Run

On Saturday, July 15, McHenry Parks and Recreation hosted their annual McHenry River Run 5K and 10K. Both courses were certified and offered racers a challenging, hilly course.

10K racers began promptly at 8 a.m., while the 5K-ers began at 8:15 a.m. The course began at McHenry East High School and ran with traffic through the streets of McHenry. Racers were able to enjoy the community as the course wove through homes and along various roadways. The 10K course circled back at the three mile mark, taking racers on an alternate route back to the finish line.

Volunteers and Parks and Recreation staff lined the course ensuring racers had a clear view of the route, while police officers blocked off busy roads allowing racers to cross. This road race was very well done and took quite a bit of organization between the Parks and Recreation Department and the City Police Officers to ensure racers were kept safe from traffic.

Racers were given short sleeved t-shirts and a reusable bag filled with goodies from the community.

First through third 5K male winners were: Cole Overby, John Kellum and Sam Rayzman. First through third 5K female winners were: Lydia Zancho, Samantha Schmitt and Olivia Cabaj.

First through third 10K male winners were: Matt Stelmasek, Aaron Spivey and Adam Fox. First through third 10K female winners were: Mandi Florip, Melanie Pilat and Katie Huff.
