Fleet Feet Announces New Suburban Store

(September 12, 2014•Chicago) Fleet Feet Sports is doubling its presence in Chicago’s suburbs with the lease-acquisition of a 1,800 square foot storefront at 102 North Marion Street in Oak Park, Illinois.

Announced today by Dave Zimmer, Fleet Feet Sports-Chicago owner and CEO, the new lease comes just one month after Chicago’s favorite running store went public with confirmation of another store to be opened in late 2014 on the city’s Southport shopping corridor.

The Oak Park location means that by the end of 2014, Fleet Feet’s footprint will encompass a total of six retail options for its growing community of customers.

“Fleet Feet’s personalized style of business is totally in step with the picturesque streets, energetic downtown and vibrant running and fitness community that exists in Oak Park,” said Zimmer.

Zimmer noted the North Marion Street address will undergo major renovations even though it previously housed another specialty running store and that “we look forward to running the next leg of the race and continuing the relationships The Competitive Foot started with Oak Park’s fitness community 40 years ago.

“The building’s 1920’s Art Deco look and feel really draws you in and we plan on creating an equally welcoming recreation/multipurpose room inside to go along with our expanded sales floor,’ Zimmer explained.

Zimmer launched Fleet Feet Sports Chicago with a single 1,400 square-foot store in Old Town in 1996. His flagship store subsequently moved in 2008 to another larger location at Piper’s Alley square feet. He added a site in Lincoln Square on the north side in 2001 and the South Loop spot launched in 2013 as the franchise became Chicagoans favorite running/active-wear store and in-demand from north to south.

The first suburban store was added in Elmhurst in May while the Southport spot is slated to open during the fourth quarter this year. With the upcoming openings, Zimmer and Fleet Feet will provide the latest and best in running and fitness shoes, apparel and accessories to an expanded base of customers throughout the Chicago area.
