CryoPlus Wellness

As we begin a new year, many athletes are focusing on health and wellness from the inside out. Medical spas are popping up all over the city and suburbs to accommodate this need of recovery and precovery incorporation into an athlete’s routine.

CryoPlus Wellness in St. Charles has been open for just over a year and is serving this need for athletes located in the western suburbs. Conveniently located in a strip mall, with ample parking and ease of access, this wellness retreat was worth the trip from Chicago for me.

CryoPlus offers a multitude of services including whole body Cryotherapy, Normatec compression therapy, Bemer Vascular therapy, red light therapy, and cryoskin treatments. The studio is immaculately clean and provides clients with a warm, friendly atmosphere. Barn doors stylishly provide privacy between each of the treatment rooms and a fish tank next to the front door welcomes guests.

I spoke with Gilda Valenzuela, owner of CryoPlus Wellness and she suggested that I experience the “trifecta” of healing for athletic performance support and recovery. The trifecta began with the Bemer Vascular therapy, followed by a red light therapy treatment, and ended with full body cryotherapy.

I was a newbie to Bemer Vascular therapy, but enjoyed the fact that my only job was to lay on a bed and do nothing for 8 minutes while the treatment worked. A few of the advertised benefits of Bemer therapy include metabolism support for increased performance, reduced risk of sports injury, faster regeneration, immune response support and activation of self-healing capacity by stimulating microcirculation.

“Bemer is a bioenergy solution to a major regulatory system, increasing the potential of health, wellness and balance! 8 minutes on the Bemer bed will deliver a highly effective signal to the circulatory system. BEMER is designed to improve circulation thereby supporting the body’s natural self-regulating processes.

The unsurpassed BEMER-Signal sets a new standard in the industry with its complex, carefully tuned configuration and timing. Nearly two decades of research and development have resulted in very specific and highly effective modulations of amplitude and frequency which are a worldwide patent-protected feat of German engineering and are used exclusively by BEMER. The signal is then transmitted to the application module for delivery into the body.”

After the 8 minutes in which I comfortably relaxed on the slender bed, I spent 20 minutes undergoing red light therapy. Red light therapy is said to improve everything from skin condition to muscle repair. I always enjoy the warmth and self reflection time that is imposed on me during the therapy time.

My trifecta concluded with full body cryotherapy, which I am a huge fan of. I have been a cryo-gal for the last two years and believe that it has made a big difference in my recovery time, especially when used before and after a marathon. However, I was shocked to see a state of the art chamber that enveloped my whole body, including my head and neck.

CryoPlus Wellness is one of two locations in the state with this brand new chamber. The three minute treatment flew by as I listened to music and was amazed at the full body chamber.

The best part of my experience at CryoPlus Wellness was the family-like atmosphere that was evident throughout the entire center. “We have athletes that visit us on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day,” explained Valenzuela. It is no wonder that athletes frequent this recovery clinic. With the newest technology, experienced and informed staff, and a welcoming environment, CryoPlus is recovery stop not to be missed.

CryoPlus Wellness is located at 1980 W. Main St. in St. Charles in the WestTowne Shopping Center.
