Whether you live in the city or suburbs, you’ll have the chance to spend some time with two of the best known names in distance running on Wednesday.
For those who enjoy a run along the lakefront after work, Deena Kastor will make an appearance at North Avenue Beach at 6 p.m. as part of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon’s Legends of the Lakefront series. Kastor, who will run the race this fall along with Joan Benoit Samuelson, will talk to runners about training for a marathon, performing at a high level and general running tips. The event is open to all and will take place near Castaways on the beach. Bank of America signs will be posted to help guide you to the specific location on Wednesday evening.
If you plan to be in the northern suburbs on Wednesday, The Runner’s Edge in Libertyville will host ultra runner Dean Karnazes to promote The North Face Endurance Challenge, scheduled for Oct. 3 and 4 at Kettle Moraine State Park in Wisconsin. The event at The Runner’s Edge will also begin at 6 p.m. with a fun run with Karnazes, followed at 7 p.m. by a question-and-answer session and a raffle, which will include three free entries to The North Face Endurance Challenge. Wednesday’s event is free, though those interested should RSVP online beforehand.
