Tuesday Reviews-Day: Gravity Fitness Stretch Strap

When I finish a run or a hard workout, I’d much rather jump in the shower and eat a big meal than take the time to stretch; however, I know it’s important, and Gravity Fitness recently introduced me to a new product that makes stretching fun.

I actually got the Gravity Fitness Stretch Strap as a gift for Christmas, and while I’ve used simple bands during high school cross country to stretch, never one with holes and that was this long – after trying it out, I feel like my last 10 years as an athlete have been gypped.

The Gravity Fitness Stretch Strap is an 8-foot long strap, 1.5 inches wide with 12 loops running along; most straps only have eight holes, but “the multiple loops allow for better stretching of muscle groups without the need of a partner,” according to GF’s website. It is made by physical therapists themselves, with a premium and durable woven strap and includes soft neoprene padded handles to avoid irritation from thin nylon.

When I first pulled out the GF Stretch Strap, I didn’t really know what to do with it – it looked like a TRX band to me, and I thought I was missing some sort of stand to put it on. But, then I realized it came with a Stretch Guide, that featured 12 different stretches that can be performed with the strap. This guide was beyond helpful; there are stretches on there I had never even before, and all are focusing on different parts of the body.

I tried all 12 moves on the stretch guide, and even was able to find some more online just by Googling “stretch strap moves.” I’m not lying when I say I have never been stretched out better than I was after an intense Pilates workout using the GF Stretch Strap.

As someone with tight hamstrings, knee and hip problems, stretching really is crucial for me, and while I think my five minutes of the butterfly stretch will suffice, it just won’t cut it for the amount of exercise I do. Because I am constantly tight, my flexibility is very low too, and I can already see improvement in that after just a few times using the GF Stretch Strap. Maybe I’ll be able to touch my toes soon!

The GF Stretch Strap comes in green, black and pink, and in addition to the stretch guide, comes with a little carrying case, so you can throw it in your gym bag or bring it to a race. And for the high quality material used and everything included, I was surprised to see the product was only $17.

Her goal for 2017 is to try a triathlon, and eventually do the Chicago Marathon. She graduated from Illinois State University in May 2016 with a degree in journalism. Working at Chicago Athlete, Holly has been able to explore photography a lot more, which is one of her main hobbies.
