It’s cold, it’s a holiday, there is football that needs to be watched and food that needs to be enjoyed. However all that waits for the morning races this Thursday on the busiest running day of the year, Thanksgiving. Runners from all across the country will be lacing up their shoes before diving head first in to gravy boats and stuffing.
While a 5K run may not be a total excuse for that second helping of turkey, it is a great way to start the day, or even the holiday week. The first Thanksgiving themed races kick off this Saturday and last for the coming week. The south suburb of Oak Lawn will be hosting their annual Gobble, Gobble, Run or Wobble 5K Turkey Trot. Also on the southwest •burbs will be the Orland Hills Turkey Trot Race, both events will be held Saturday morning.
Sunday it will be the northern suburbs turn to host their turkey trots. Libertyville will be the site of the Cold Turkey Trot — Nacasa 5K Run/Walk and Lincolnwood will have a Turkey Trot of their own. Lisle, in the western suburbs, will have their Turkey Trot Tune-up 5K on Sunday as well.
Obviously, the vast majority of Thanksgiving themed runs will take place on Thursday morning. Nearly every community across Chicagoland will have at least a 5K race for the family to enjoy in their town or a very short ride away. Here is a list of the many Thanksgiving morning runs:
