Stan’s Donut 5k


Donuts, donuts, and more donuts! Lots of donuts at Montrose Harbor on Saturday, August 12, 2017. The Inaugural Stan’s Donut 5k Run was a huge success. To promote the race, there were many fun runs at Fleet Feet with donuts in previous weeks, which was also where the easy packet pickup was held. Parking was available at Montrose, although closer to the race, it began to fill up, so divvying, public transit, and ride sharing were also great options.

The course itself was simple enough- around Montrose Harbor with numerous signs and volunteers to direct. The only tricky part was crossing the lakefront path. Many of the runners and cyclists on the lakefront path were unwilling to pause for the 5k participants.

On the course, there over 6,000 thousand donuts. I grabbed two- one at mile one, and another at mile two. Thankfully, they were mini glazed donuts, so they easy to hold and eat. I’d recommend bringing water to eat with donuts. There were water stations along the course, but my handheld was much simpler. I’d also recommend bringing your cellphone. On the course, there were many options for photos with punny donut signs, e.g. “you’re the sprinkles to my donut” and “I run because I love my body and donut”. Personally, we stopped for a selfie at the “I run because I love my body and donuts,” because I am all about mindfulness and enjoying your food.

The post-race party was well organized and balanced. More opportunities for photos with an inflatable donut and cut-outs were available. Donut and coffee pickup were a stitch; you just had to simply tear off your tickets on your bib and you received your delicious Glazed Stan’s Donut and High Brew Coffee. There were also many other postrace snacks available such as bananas, water, chips and yogurt.  The children’s dash was also held around the post-race party area making it easy to watch and cheer on!

For the female race, it was also the race of the Emily’s- Emily Jurlina came in first and Emily Weisbard came in second place. The men’s race was won by Kyle Larson of Fleet Feet Racing. First place men’s and women’s win a year of free donuts. Now, I’m just wondering who will share their donut with me. In the meantime, I’ll have to use my free Stan’s donut coupon that came in our packets.
