Rapha, a cycling clothing and accessories company, will operate a pop up shop in Lincoln Park for the next three weeks, retailing its latest products and hosting a variety of events throughout its 20-day stay.

The store, located at 2130 N. Halsted, will kick off its time in Chicago with a grand opening party tonight at 6 p.m. The party will feature beverages from Half Acre Brewery and a Wrap Battle among bike mechanics from Velosmith, Turin, Comrade and Ancien, who will compete to prove who has the best handlebar wrapping skills.

Next Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m., Rapha will host five area cyclists also involved in creative pursuits for its 5×5: Intervals on Design event. During this time, Charles Adler, Michael Catano, Daphne Karagianis, Dhiraj Madura and Jeff Mahin will each have five minutes to speak on something that interests them in the world of cycling and design.

Rapha has a stacked calendar for its last full week in the city, with events on Sept. 13, Sept. 16 and Sept. 18. On Sept. 13 at 11 a.m., prominent area women cyclists, including Lindsay Knight, Karagianis, Francine Haas, Sue Wellinghoff and Annie Byrne, will take part in Rapha Calling: Women’s Brunch, Roundtable and Ride. After a buffet brunch, attendees will take a 20-mile ride around the area. Sept. 16, the store will kick off cyclocross season with a live screening of Cross Vegas World Cup. The screening, which costs $5, will also serve as a fundraiser for Friends of Big Marsh. Finally on Sept. 18, Rapha will lead an architecture tour by bike at 6 p.m. Maria Larkin and Burke Welever, two local architects, will guide the ride.

In addition to the store’s events, Rapha will also host rides during its time in Chicago, starting with weekly Tuesday morning rides at 6 a.m. on Sept. 8, 15 and 22. Those who work outside of traditional 9-5 hours can take part in the Freelancers Ride, scheduled for Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. Finally, the Rapha will organize a ride on Sept. 20 to Caldwell Woods, so participants can spectate the opening of the Chi Cross Cup season.
