On Saturday, June 19th, Silver Circle Sporting Events hosted the Father’s Day Trail Assail races, featuring distances of a 5K, 10K, and half marathon. If you have read my column, you know that I am a huge fan of this race company for many reasons. One of them being the inclusivity of these races.
Race Director Sean Osborne features many different distance options to capture runners of all strengths, abilities, and interest levels. Finding a Half Marathon in the area during the month of June is extremely difficult and I so appreciate SCSE adding a half to their lineup for Father’s Day. It was a great way to get out and enjoy all of the dads out there.
The course looped through the Menominee Falls trail system. It was extremely scenic and beautiful as runners wove in and out of tree lined trails. There were multiple hills and challenges throughout the course, as you would expect on a trail.
The course was a 5K loop, which runners ran multiple times based on their distance selection. SCSE provided a “dry foot option” detour where the course got extremely wet and muddy on the trail. Although they did warn that even if you did select the dry option, you are bound to end up muddy. Which I did!
All runners received a short sleeve technical T-shirt and half marathon runners received a finishers medal. The energy was high as runners looped in and out of the trail system. If you have not participated in a silver circle sporting events race yet, you should check out their wide selection and see for yourself what a gem these races are. They are an easy drive north from the city, offer ample parking, and a simple and fun experience.
