Race Recap: Esprit de She 5K

Over 1,200 women participated in the Esprit de She run at Montrose Harbor Thursday night.

The race originally had a 10K and 5K, but due to a heat advisory, race officials cancelled the 10K for runners safety and all participated in the 5K course.

Dave Pappas MCed the event and Girls on the Run accepted a donation from Esprit to kick off the event.  A four group-staggered start allowed for minimal congestion of the path.  The course covered portions of Simonds Drive and the lakefront path with beautiful views of the city on the way back to the finish.  Ample hydration stations and on-course misters kept runners going as they pushed through the thick humid air.

Runners crossed the finish line and were greeted with an ice towel, medal and popsicles, a perfect treat after a sweaty run.  The post race village had a band along with dozens of vendors and free tapas and alcohol for racers.  Gildan, the title sponsor, also provide free gear to all who visited their booth.  An incoming thunderstorm motivated everyone to wrap up their night before getting wet!
