In an effort to diversify their sales approach, a couple is combining fitness and booze in a new Burr Ridge running store.

Peak Running will be located at 580 Village Center Drive, approved by Burr Ridge Village officials Monday, the Chicago Tribune reports. In addition to running shoes and fitness attire, Peak Running will provide eight to 10 craft beer selections, along with wine, water and snacks.

Tiffany and Mike Cruickshank own another Peak Running in Downers Grove, but do not sell alcohol due to lack of space. Tiffany Cruickshank said the bar at the Burr Ridge location will be very small, with only four bar stools and a small counter in the back.

“It will not be a bar situation by any means,” she says. Instead, the couple’s goal is to allow running clubs or individuals to continue the camaraderie shared during a run at their store; they want customers to feel as comfortable buying fitness clothes as they would be talking over a beer.

The store will obey the Village Center hours, which are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday; Peak Running will not have the extended hours as other liquor license holders.

No more than 5 percent of its income is to come from alcohol sales, the Village told the Cruickshank’s upon approving their request.

“If we have 5 percent of our sales from beer, we are in trouble,” Mike Cruickshank said.
