The running community in Naperville is growing as fast as anywhere in the Chicagoland area. While strong runners have always come from the southwest suburb they have often been forced to travel for the majority of their races or purchases. Now, however the Naperville Run Company is growing and has opened a second location.
The new location has been dubbed the “south” store while the original and popular store is the “downtown” store. It is located at 3416 S. route 59, suite 116 in Naperville, south of 95th street. The idea to open the second store came out of a desire to serve runners who had more difficulty getting to the downtown store and runners of neighboring communities like Yorkville, Oswego and Plainfield. Marisa Hird, a NRC manager, said that the new location is as similar to the original as possible. With the exception of some aesthetic details customers won’t notice a difference between stores in their selection and staff.
The south store opened Wednesday, February 5 but was purposely done with little fan-fair. Hird said that because of the weather they knew that runners have been timid to get their season going. However just through the little social media publicity they have brought in a strong following already. Hird said that people have seen their sign and come in to check out the new store and in just over a week their customer base has been steadily climbing.
When, or if as it currently feels, the cold weather does finally break the south location will host an official grand opening party. Hird said they expect the party will be sometime in mid-March. While she expects to have the usual food, drinks and entertainment for the party, they don’t have set plans yet. Instead they are feeling out their costumers to see what would be most appealing. The store will be taking the same approach towards the fun runs they will host. While Hird said the majority of their runs and events will still be held at the larger downtown store, they will develop specific fun runs just for their costumers.
