Love the Run You’re With: Valentine’s Day Events

If you want to get your heart pumping to celebrate Valentine’s Day, you have several area options with both store-sponsored fun runs and local races.

Tonight, Dick Pond Athletics in Park Ridge will host a Valentine’s Chocolate Run in conjunction with Brooks, which recently released new Launch and Transcend shoes. Run participants will make stops at Dolcetti Pastry, The Pick, The Café at Le Flour, Don Juan’s, Moretti’s and Fannie May during the event. Next Tuesday, Naperville Running Company’s north location will host a Brooks Valentine Fun Run. The three-mile run starts at 6:15 p.m. and rewards runners with special treats at the stores after the run. To attend, register online.

If you can’t make Dick Pond’s run tonight but still want your chocolate fix, Fleet Feet Sports in Elmhurst has a Hot Chocolate Fun Run/Walk planned for next Wednesday, Feb. 10. The run, also put on with Brooks, starts at 6:30 p.m. and allows participants to pick their own distance and pace before returning to the store for hot chocolate and raffle prizes. Though not as specifically Valentine’s themed as other events, The Runner’s Soul in La Grange wants local runners to show their love for Flint, Michigan on Feb. 13 with an 8:30 a.m. fun run and water donation drive. The store hopes to fill its Souls in Motion FitMobile with water, which it will then deliver to Flint with the help of the Riverbend Striders, a running group based in Flint. Dick Pond Athletics locations in St. Charles, Lisle, Carol Stream and Hoffman Estates and Park RidgeSweetheart 5K in Chicago and the North Shore Cupid’s Love Dash, which features 5K and 10K distances, in Highland Park.
