Runners around the United States will hit the streets today in honor of National Running Day, and local stores and organizations will host a variety of events to celebrate.
The Chicago Area Runners Association will host three different fun runs, one at 6:30 a.m. from Equinox on Michigan Ave., one at 12 p.m. from Equinox Loop and one at 6:30 p.m. from Equinox in Lincoln Park. These runs, hosted in partnership with Massage Envy, will allow CARA members to earn the chance to win perks from Massage Envy based on the number of spas they visit during the day. Runners will need to visit Massage Envy locations, take a photo of themselves at the location, post the photo to Facebook and tag CARA in the photo. From there, CARA will determine the winners of a free upgrade (available to those who visit one Massage Envy location), a free 30 minute massage upgrade (available to those who visit two Massage Envy locations) or a free 60 minute massage (available to those who visit three Massage Envy locations).
Fleet Feet Sports Chicago will host its second annual franchise-wide relay. The run will stop at all six area Fleet Feet locations, leaving Elmhurst (124 Schiller St.) at 11 a.m. for a 9.3-mile run to Oak Park, leaving Oak Park (102 N. Marion) at 1:30 p.m. for a 10.2-mile run to the South Loop, leaving the South Loop (150 W. Roosevelt) at 3:55 p.m. for a 5.29-mile run to Old Town, leaving Old Town (1620 N. Wells) at 5:15 p.m. for a 4.1-mile run to Lakeview, leaving Lakeview (2259 N. Southport) at 6:15 p.m. for a 2.8-mile run to Lincoln Square and concluding at Lincoln Square with an after party at Garcia’s Restaurant (4760 N. Lincoln). Runners can join the relay for as much time as they would like, and point-to-point gear check will be available. Pace leaders will run the route at a 10:00 pace.
Back on My Feet Chicago has two events planned to celebrate the day, starting with a fun run at 5:30 p.m. The run, which will take place at the Lawson House YMCA (30 W. Chicago Ave.) includes two- and four-mile loop options in the neighborhood. Back on My Feet resident members and Associate Board members will join participants during the fun run. After the run, Back on My Feet will host a party at Woodhaven Bar + Kitchen (712 N. Clark St.) featuring food and drink specials, games and prizes. Admission to the party is $10 and will benefit Back on My Feet Programs. Additionally, Bombas will donate 100 percent of proceeds from sales on bombas.com today to Back on My Feet.
