Remember cross country? Remember crisp, cool, sunny days that could only be make for running on grass? Remember warming up with your teammates and being surrounded by other teams cheering on each other as they round that final corner and give every inch of effort to get to the finish line?
The IL Club XC Championships recapture that same feeling you remember in high school and/or college on a fun morning filled with laughs and tired legs.
The Evanston Running Club has organized this event for the past few years but the location changed for 2018 to the Canal Shores Golf Course for a course that was described by some participants as a true cross country course, complete with water, tall grass, and one hill.
The event was organized into three races: an all-comers race, and then two team races, Masters and Open. Teams from all over the area came together to duke it out over the three loop course to earn bragging rights. Times were a secondary thought to many of the runners — as always the case with cross country — as the only thing going through your head was to beat the person in front of you.
Afterward, the ERC hosted a picnic complete with hotdogs, beer, and other goodies where the teams came together and enjoyed each other’s company before the awards ceremony. Congrats to the following teams for winning their divisions:
Masters Male- Evanston Running Club
Masters Female- Track and Trough
Open Male- Big Baller Brand
Open Female- Fleet Feet/Nike Racing
