Shred415, a local fitness studio known for its high intensity interval training strength and cardio workouts and Hotel Palomar in Chicago’s River North neighborhood recently launched a new partnership that will allow both hotel guests and area residents to move their workouts outdoors for the summer.
The Shred Summer Workout Series will take place every Wednesday morning at 6:30 through the end of September on Hotel Palomar’s 17th floor outdoor terrace, allowing participants to enjoy their workout with a view of the city.
“That patio space, with its view of downtown, Navy Pier and the sun rising: it’s a unique space,” Nabil Moubayed, general manager for Hotel Palomar Chicago, says.
The workouts will combine strength and cardio exercises to raise participants’ heart rates before bringing them back down in intervals to create an effective workout. Though classes won’t involve treadmills like those that take place at Shred415 studios, Shred creators Bonnie Micheli and Tracy Roemer have incorporated intervals of moves such as mountain climbers, jumping jacks, burpees and plank jacks into workouts to ensure participants still get the most out of the class.
In addition to rooftop workouts, Shred415 and Hotel Palomar will also give guests the opportunity to work out in the comfort of their hotel rooms using the hotel’s in-room entertainment system. Guests can select from three different workouts created by Micheli and Roemer of varying intensity levels that use either a person’s body weight or resistance bands, available at the hotel concierge’s desk.
“Some people don’t want to go out, especially in the winter, so this is another way for people to do an in-room workout without having to get changed, go upstairs and go to the fitness room,” Moubayed says. “We also have in-room yoga mats and a yoga channel as well.”
Hotel Palomar also offers guided runs for guests on Tuesday mornings at 6:30, complimentary bikes for guests and a Palo-Shred package through the end of September that provides guests with one class at Shred415 in Old Town, a Shred415 water bottle and ankle bands and healthy snacks including fruit, nuts and protein bars.
Locals interested in taking part in the Shred Summer Workout Series at Hotel Palomar can book classes directly through Shred415 online.
