Have Sweet Feet with Swiftwick

While socks may be the last thing we think about when dressing for a run, they certainly shouldn’t be. As most runners have learned, probably the hard way, socks can make or break a workout. I have been on a few longer distance runs where I have regretted my sock choice.

I’ve begun exploring the market to find a sock for endurance athletes and Swiftwick has quickly jumped to the top of my list of favorites. With a “Best sock you will ever wear guarantee,” this sock has big shoes to fill.

“Swiftwick socks are more than just apparel, they are the essential performance link between athletes and their high-performance footwear,” stated Katy Hudgins, Athlete and Public Relations Coordinator. “Swiftwick crafts every sock with our Contoured Compression® Fit and Fiber First™ Moisture Wicking to provide uncompromising performance. We believe that our sock empower athletes to achieve a personal best whether heading into the final miles of a marathon, escaping in the breakaway or traversing a mountain trail. No other sock performs better between athletes and their chosen terrain. All of our socks are also 100% Made in the USA.”

I had the pleasure of testing out a pair of Swiftwick socks at the AMITA Health Fit America Sports Fest Half Marathon in Hoffman Estates. It had rained the night before the race leaving large puddles throughout the course and extremely humid morning for racing. Although I did feel the moisture throughout the 13.1 from pooled water and sweat, it was not overwhelming, distracting or obtrusive to my race. Most importantly, I suffered no blistering or chafing as a result of the moisture. This sold me on Swiftwick!

I asked Hudgins how this technology was made possible. “We begin by selecting only high performance sock fibers inherently constructed to move moisture, which are sculpted into breathable designs to keep you dry. All of our socks are created with Olefin, a high-performance, lightweight fiber that wicks moisture and dries quickly. It is abrasion resistant, strong and colorfast.”

I don’t know how they do it, but Swiftwick certainly has created a product that dries quickly and does not produce blisters, even in wet conditions.

“The original Swiftwick socks were conceived and developed by a mountain bike racer seeking a better product for his team. Early product seeding was done around the pits and campfires of a 12-hour mountain bike race.”

“Since then,” Hudgins continued, “we have been fortunate to grow the Swiftwick tribe across the country and around the world. All the while, we’ve been there with you. We’ve lined up at Dirty Kanza and Kona, and The Barkley Fall Classic. We’ve ridden the Whole Enchilada, trekked in Nepal and ran in our local 5Ks. We are a team of athletes serving athletes with a shared passion for a fun, active lifestyle.  It’s where we started and remains one of our core values. Our desire to build the best socks is rooted in our desire to help others enjoy the activities that mean so much to us.”

I highly recommend testing out Swiftwick socks for yourself. You can go to Swiftwick.com to the dealer locator to find a retailer near you or you can order them online.
