On Saturday, April 20, Frog Hops Sports hosted its annual Bunny Wabbit Race at Independence Grove Forest Preserve located in Libertyville, IL. The race featured 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon distance options.
All distances began together at 9 am. The 5K and 10K followed the same out and back loop with a turn-around at the water station. The Half Marathon runners went further out and circled back on the same loop. 5K-ers followed the loop once (one hop), 10K-ers looped twice, and half marathoners looped three times.
The entire course was on pavement or crushed gravel and had no obstructions on the forest preserve path. The course included a few inclines throughout and racers were challenged by a strong headwind throughout much of the course. It was one of those mornings where the wind seemed to be either at your front or side, regardless of your direction.
Ray Letada, owner of FrogHops, does an excellent job with his pre-race communication and race day organization. Parking was free and close to the start/finish line. Packet pick up was quick and efficient. The race began right on time, actually a few minutes early! And, the fun, Easter themed morning was full of positive energy and cheerful runners.
Letada also hosts the Freedom Frog in August and Arctic Frog in December. You can check out his races here – https://www.froghopssports.com/.
