Amita Health Fit America 5K, 10K and Half Marathon

On Saturday, July 22, All Community Events hosted its annual Amita Health Fit America 5K, 10K and half marathon. The race was held in Hoffman Estates with the starting line nestled behind a corporate business complex.

Parking was free and easy, affording runners a quick walk to the start line. The half marathon and 10k distance began at 7:30 a.m., and the 5K racers began at 8 a.m., leaving enough room at the starting line and on the course.

The course was on road and paved trail, circling the Paul Douglas Forest Preserve. Racers began by weaving through the corporate park and then headed to two out and back loops that circled either side of the local forest preserve. Spectators were scattered throughout the course offering cheers and encouragement. Water and aid stations were well positioned throughout the course with water, Gatorade and energy gels.

Because of the extreme rainfall during the days leading up to the race, the course had patches of water that runners were forced to race through. It was inevitable that most of us left the course with water filled socks and shoes. However, the rain did subside prior to the starting gun, so we did not have to race through falling rain.

There were several hills throughout the race although the elevation was low. The extreme humidity made for a challenging morning and sweat soaked gear by the finish.

As always, All Community Events did a fantastic job with preparation and communication prior to race day and throughout the course. There was a cash prize for first through tenth place, so there were a lot of fast racers that came out for the day.

All finishers received a flag to wave during the last quarter mile, a large medal and post-race goodies. Swag included a short-sleeved, technical t-shirt and the infamous All Community Events shoe bag.

First through third 5K male winners were: Jeremy Ruston, Gabriel Lerner and Elian Salgado. First through third 5K female winners were: Krista Ruston, Sophia Robinson and Kaitlyn Hollar.

First through third 10K male winners were: Ignacio Aquirre, Alexandr Paraceli and Adrian Campbell. First through third 10K female winners were: Michele Guido, Martiza Godinez and Sara Spjuth.

First through third half marathon male winners were: Julius Koskei, John Murugu and Calvin Chemoiywo. First through third half marathon female winners were: Firegent Mandefiro, Gladys Cheboi and Brittney Feivor.
