Maria Cicero, Tim Hamilton & Meagan Popp
Maria Cicero

Maria Cicero has quite a history.  A graduate of York High School, Maria was a state champion and record holder in cross country and track for the Dukes.  She then attended Boston College University, where she was a four time All-American in cross country and distance events.

Upon graduation, Maria took some time off from the sport, but enjoyed an extravagant return by winning the Frosty 5 Mile this past February, “The Frosty 5 mile was actually the first race I had done in a while.  I took a few years off after school to focus on the professional world, but I am getting back into it now.”

Maria’s memories and milestones may be too numerous to count, but she says she has enjoyed returning home, “I think being around old running friends and familiar locations, it’s really nice.”

What’s next for Maria?  Look for her to try and be one of the first to cross the finish line at the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle on March 21.

Tim Hamilton

Tim Hamilton is a master of the 5K.  In the past year, the former college runner has won the “Hoof it for Hephzibah, Lilac Strut, Buffalo Grove Frozen Turkey and Frosty 5K.  Add in third place finishes at the Grayslake 5K and Run for the Stars, and it’s hard not to be impressed.

While he has enjoyed tremendous success over the years running competitively, Hamilton quickly notes that he is not driven by wins, “The competition and wins are great, but what I really like is what I call ‘running free.’  I soak in the scenery, and focus on doing what’s best for my body.  I’m more relaxed and I just enjoy it a lot more.”

Hamilton ‘s next goal is to compete in the Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field 10 Mile presented by adidas in May with his cousins. “We’re going to run and raise money for cancer, since I have lost family members to it.  I’ll definitely be running a little harder with them in mind.”
