More than 700 participated in the 12th Annual Andigo Halloween Hustle 5K & Kids Dash in Palatine, IL on Saturday. Many runners dressed up in their Halloween costumes for a fun and spooky Kids Dash and 5K race, while also supporting Fathers Helping Fathers organization.

The USATF-certified course started and finished at Eric Drive just north of Colfax that winds through historic downtown Palatine.  The first participants gathered at the starting line under an overcast sky with temperatures in the 40s.  The race started at 8:10 a.m. where children ran a half mile Kid’s Dash. Passing the big red inflatable start line, kids ran towards an enormous inflatable spider and headed towards a huge halloween pumpkin and back.

An incredible dj entertained us with Halloween themed dance music and cheered and lifted our spirits from the start.  Each child received a cotton youth t-shirt, race bib, Trick-or-Treat goody bag and pumpkin at the finish.

Right after the kids dash, all 5k participants were asked to line up in the nicely marked corrals.  The course was appropriately marked from the start line all throughout the course, with brightly colored signs directing runners. Adults who participated in the 5K started at 8:30 a.m.  Those who registered for the 5k received a long-sleeved, dri-fit shirt and a very pretty spider and cobweb 5k finisher medal.

This was a great event; seeing everyone come out dressed up was a fantastic way to celebrate the holiday early in a family-friendly, healthy way. Andigo did a great job in making this a fun filled and affordable race.

Packet pick-up was available at Andigo in Shaumburg on Thursday and Friday, and race-day. Winners in each age category received awards, in addition to prizes and awards for best individual costume, best group costume and best kids costume at Tap House Grill after party. The award was a customized skeleton medal.

All participants received two complimentary drinks (beer or soft drinks) a tasty ½ wrap and voucher for a picture download. Complimentary parking was available in the Downtown Palatine Parking Garage. Number of finishers: 658, 384 of them female and 274 male.  The average time was 36:03.

The Palatine Food bank was collecting Non-perishable items. Proceeds from the Halloween Hustle 5K & Kids Dash will go directly to benefit Fathers Helping Fathers, a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping fathers’ rights in the areas of parenting and raising awareness about the positive influence committed fathers have on the development of their children.

Having three girls, a husband, and a full-time job kept Nancy constantly on-the-move, she never had much time for additional adventures until she discovered runningin 2010. Her original motivation was to lose weight, so she signed up for a 10k. This original challenge led to higher distances each year, until she reached a 50K. By 2014, Nancy had completed 50 races, three of them marathons, and her goal is to run 50 marathons by age 50.
